Internship – Equine Veterinarian (Artificial Insemination & Reproduction)

Aan De Watergang Veterinary Practice is a leading, modern group practice for both small animals and horses, and a recognized European AI (Artificial Insemination) center for equine reproduction.
Located in the heart of the charming Waasland region in De Klinge, we are dedicated to animal health and welfare, offering top-quality care with a personal touch.
Within our equine practice, quality, service, and close relationships with our clients are central. We provide both first-line and specialized second-line care. Our focus lies on in-depth diagnostics and treatment, including intensive care when needed.
Our expertise includes reproduction, endoscopy, gastroscopy, ultrasonography, pre-purchase examinations, lameness evaluations, and surgery.
Our dedicated equine team consists of four veterinarians and two assistants working both in the clinic and on the road. The practice is equipped with modern facilities, including an operating theatre, four examination rooms, and seventeen spacious stables.
We also have recipient mares to further strengthen our reproductive services.

Position Description
Your responsibilities will include:
- Monitoring mare cycles: tracking estrus and determining the optimal insemination time.
- Performing artificial insemination (AI) with fresh, chilled, and frozen semen.
- Embryo transfer: flushing, evaluating, and transferring embryos, and monitoring recipient mares.
- Conducting reproductive examinations on stallions and mares, including diagnosis and treatment of fertility issues.
- Semen collection and processing, including freezing and preparing for shipment.
- Communicating with horse owners and breeders, providing practical advice on fertility and breeding management.
- Accurate record-keeping of inseminations, embryo transfers, and diagnostic results.

Profile
- You hold a degree in Veterinary Medicine with a focus on equine health.
- You are passionate about reproduction and horses.
- You have an excellent command of Dutch and/or English.
- You are flexible and willing to work outside regular hours when needed.
- You hold a Category B driver’s license.
